Trash and tombstones

Soft-delete, restore, and permanently purge files and folders.

Deleting in Nodus is soft by default. A delete writes a tombstone so the action converges across nodes, and the item remains recoverable until it is purged.

Restore or purge

Open Tombstone in the web client (the Trash screen on mobile):

  • each row shows the item and, where relevant, per-node status and days until automatic purge;
  • Restore undoes the soft delete;
  • Delete forever (purge) removes the entity and its objects permanently, across the Relay and nodes.

Purge is destructive and cannot be undone. Prefer letting the retention window elapse if you are unsure.

Retention

Tombstones are retained for a configurable window before automatic purge. See Garbage collection and ADR-0005.
